When someone contacts us, we can co-ordinate searches if there are sightings, depending on location. Usually after getting as much information about the lost pet as possible from the owners. There isn’t such a thing as too much information. It is all important.
Searching in all weathers and many different terrains. By Foot, day and /or night. Or driving around locations usually late afternoon, early evening and at night when its quieter and lost animals often venture out. We like to try and see if there is an area the animal is staying close to, or establish a routine it might have.
Its often during these searches, by foot or car and sightings that we find an area we feel is best to set up feed stations, owners clothing or animal’s bedding and place cameras.
We often drive around areas by car, or sitting at our devices studying maps and possible areas and directions an animal may go. Or where they might prefer to hide.
We search out water sources, as animals will normally try to stick to water sources. Animals rely mostly on their sense of smell, so like to head towards familiar or similar smells that could indicate to them that they are close to home. Or they search out food smells, and we have often had sightings of lost dogs close to shops and takeaway food places, if they are near suburbia.
Never underestimate a pet’s sense of direction, smell and their instincts. Their smell and instincts and knowing about a dogs personality and habits all help to focus on selected search areas, as well as sightings.
