Milly’s started with some basic trail camera’s that used SD cards for storing motion detected stills and videos. We would set these up in areas where there had been sightings of lost pets, along with feed stations. The cameras would overlook the feed stations. The next day we would check to see if the lost pet appears on camera and what time.
This allowed us to monitor if the pet was returning and we often would set up feed stations for a couple of days and nights. If the pet was captured on the camera, we would move towards setting up a trap. Usually the Missy Trap for dogs, a smaller trap for cats.
The addition of our 1st 4G Camera was a wonderful upgrade and very important tool. This immediately sends motion stills as a text message to our mobiles. We can change mobile numbers in the camera to send to us and also owners.
It also stores all stills and records motion video clips onto an SD card.
We also use this at feed stations and also set it up at traps. Its important to get notifications if an animal is near and interested in the trap or if it goes into the trap and the door closes. At this point someone, who was already pre-allocated, gets to the trap as quickly as possible. That person stays with the pet keeping it calm until the owners arrive. Or we carefully win the pets trust and put a lead on it or, depending on size, place it in a comfy sturdy cage for transporting.
We have another 4G camera now, thanks once again to generous community and businesses.
This 4G camera gives us live video, plus notifies us if motion is detected. We get live audio and visual. We can hear what is happening and also speak if someone happens to be on camera. This live surveillance has added another dimension to our operations and we hope we can keep adding to our 4G camera collection.
Our 4G cameras have been invaluable in helping locate dogs and cats, instantly, when they appear.
