Patonga Kittens – Unwanted and Dumped
Our year started NYE when we were contacted by a young lady just after 10pm to say she saw a young kitten on a bush track at Patonga.
With no thought we grabbed a trap and set out for a 50min round journey to help this little one. With trap set we prayed.
Going up the next morning to no kitten in the trap was disappointing but it did then give us time to look around the area. We left food and unset the trap as well as left our sign to say who we were and what we were doing.
Within 2hrs I received a phone call from National Parks and Wildlife oh no, I thought’ All was good as we were given permission to leave our traps to capture the kittens. We also were told that they themselves had caught two kittens already and that in fact there were two and not one kitten.
Later that day we placed our camera in and fresh food with trap set in hope we would trap one. Nothing. Next morning we went to redo food to come back later that night still hoping to see a kitten during the day, but nothing.
We then decided to place our drone up to see if we could see any of the kittens. Yes success we spotted Smudge on the drone. More food down in front of the camera we waited.
1 kitten, 2 kittens and then comes number 3. What, wait 3, crap. This now became urgent. With plans in place we knew we had to get them all asap.
