Finding Bobby

Missing Black Poodle – Bobby – went missing Saturday 30th January

Post on our Milly’s facebook site:-
(Escaped yard, recently adopted, and didn’t know the area).
SEEN AROUND FENNELLS BAY.
PLEASE DO NOT CHASE, CALL OR TRY TO CATCH HIM.

Very scared. Could run onto the road, as has happened already a few times.
Need to work out all sightings and updated sightings and keep them in one post.

Then establish if he is going to regular areas and places.
Then set up feeding stations to keep him coming back, as was done by one resident near 255 Main Rd, Fennells Road.

If that can happen, then there is a big chance he can be caught using our big sensor operated trap. Plus our cameras.

facebook post continued ….
(special thanks to Floyd for compiling this list based on many posts on different community lost and found sites. We needed it all in one area/post).

Sunday 31st January
No times available, only areas of sightings;-
👀 Sighted at the top end of Defender Cul de Sac and then took off into bushland.
👀 Sighted several times near Fennell Bay Public School (Bay Road).
👀At night, at the rear of houses on Old Main Road, and ran to the end of the road into bushes.
👀 Sighted several times around the area of 255 Main Road, Fennel Bay (The Hippy Seed Company).
👀 Reports of him running towards Woodrising on several occasions.
👀 Sighted running fast up Main Road towards Macquarie Road at 3.40 pm.
👀 Up and down the drain also?
👀 Possibly some of the above sightings were on Monday, but not sure. Hard to determine from all the different group posts.

Monday 1st February
👀 Reports of him running on Main Road towards Woodrising.
👀 Reported running on road across Fennell Bay traffic lights (most likely Main Road/Macquarie Road)
👀 This was also the last day that Bobby ate the food left out for him at or near 255 Main rd.

No reports anywhere of being seen after Tuesday early morning??

During the early reporting of sightings and Bobby being fed at a lovely ladies house in Main st, Jo and Mark, from Milly’s ventured up to the area and met up with Renee and looked around during horrible weather checking out areas he had been seen and trying to work out the next move after various sightings and the lovely lady who kept leaving out food for him on Main Road.

February 10th, 2020

Thanks to a lovely man and his family who notified us via our Milly’s inbox and sent a photo, asking if the scared dog on their porch that they had been feeding, was Bobby.

Yes it was.

I got in contact with Floyd who had been keeping records of sightings and updating. Floyd got in contact with Kim and Renee and after a lot of back and forward messages with the homeowner and all of us, both Kim (although I was not aware of what was unfolding with Kim at the time – her story is further down this page) and Renee headed to the house.

I was on the phone to Renee as she was driving to meet Kim at the house Bobby was hiding at. As she got closer she excitedly said, Kim has him. We were very emotional on the phone and excited and happy.  Kim and Renee then took Bobby to the vet. He was a bit dehydrated and in need of TLC, but otherwise was well.

Thanks to Kim who caught and secured him and Renee. For all they have done, and to the community for their help. Also to the lady who kept feeding him the first few days he was sighted which would have kept him staying close in the same area.

Special thanks to Floyd Payne who has kept posts up to date and sightings.

From Kim’s perspective:
As we live close to where Bobby went missing and I work near the area as well.
My son and I would look every morning on the way , around the houses that were feeding him.

We looked under some old houses that looked like No one had been living in for a while and he could have been hiding there for that week he was missing, with no sightings. Then one morning we noticed some men clearing the area with machinery and I had read that same day that Bobby hadn’t been back for food.

I will admit I said to my son there’s a chance he may not survive this as I think he will now be spooked from the noise.

During this time I had been speaking over Facebook with Renee and I saw her posts that she was  also out searching for Bobby. I’d never met her before.

A few days later I was at home which is about a couple of kilometres from where he’d been fed. My son was outside riding his bike. He came running in and said “Mum, Bobby is across the road with our neighbor and his daughter’. The man across the road had him on the veranda with his daughter and my son saw him and came and got me.

Then the daughter and I worked at gaining his trust until I was able to pick him up.

Renee and I had already made contact and with the help of the neighbour I secured Bobby and Renee pulled up just as I was holding him in my arms. I had called the vet who said to bring him straight down as I wanted to get him checked immediately. I jumped in Renee’s car and she took us there and we made contact with Anne, the owner of Bobby.

Bobby was remarkably well. However we did find out he had many many grass seeds that he had to have surgically removed.

Some things to note from this wonderful story is Renee never once gave up hope. She was so committed to finding him, she’s remarkable.

Two days later I happened to be going to Sydney and as the owner was in Canberra I drove Bobby to Sydney and met her there to deliver bobby.

Kim’s perspective cont…..
I spoke to Anne, Bobby’s owner  just this week and Bobby is very settled and doesn’t run off anymore.

A happy ending. Without social media and the regular updates and a group of animal lovers this wouldn’t have been the result.

Very much teamwork. And how amazing was it he was literally across the road from my house.

Lyn said: I was on the phone to Renee as she pulled up and saw Kim had caught him. Was a fantastic moment. I cried, I’m sure Renee cried and I’m sure many others did too.
Lyn said: thankyou to you and Kim and any others who put so much work into looking out for this boy. Was nice speaking to you today, twice. Especially the moment you turned up and saw Bobby with Kim.

Kim said: I was in shock I think, It was very overwhelming x

Lyn to Kim: it was wonderful. The feelings you had, our team gets every time we find and secure a lost dog or even when someone else finds a lost dog or cat that we have been involved in trying to find and reunite. It’s very emotional and wonderful when they are found safe.

11 days on the run. Never give up. Well done community.
